Accessibility Statement
This accessibility statement applies to the service booking.finferries.fi. The statement was prepared on March 3, 2026, and updated on April 1, 2026.
Efforts are made to ensure the accessibility of this website in accordance with the Act on the Provision of Digital Services (in Finnish) . The accessibility of the service has been evaluated by an external service provider, Evermade Oy.
The service is partially compliant with the WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards. The identified deficiencies are described in detail in the section “Accessibility Findings.”
Corrective measures are taken as resources allow, and this statement is updated as repairs progress. A system renewal is currently underway, which is expected to resolve most of the identified issues.

Accessibility Findings
The following section describes known deficiencies that have not yet been rectified. If a problem is encountered that is not listed here, it should be reported to: saavutettavuus@finferries.fi.
Visual Perceptibility and Colour Contrasts
Shortcomings have been identified in certain colour combinations within the digital service, where the contrast between text or other elements and the background does not meet accessibility requirements. This applies specifically to the use of light blue on white background, as well as certain form elements and table headers.
The visibility of state changes for selection buttons and other active elements is inconsistent in some areas. Furthermore, instances have been noted where text and background colours are identical, rendering information invisible, such as in certain summary views of the service.
Non-compliant WCAG criteria:
- 1.4.1 Use of Colour
- 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum)
- 1.4.11 Non-text Contrast
Responsiveness and Usability
Scaling of text or full-page zooming has been found to cause content clipping and overlapping elements in certain sections, such as menus and footers.
Deficiencies in responsiveness affect the positioning and perceptibility of elements on mobile devices. Overlapping and clipping of content have been observed in mobile use. Challenges are particularly prominent when a mobile device is used in landscape orientation.
Increased text spacing may hinder the usability and readability of forms.
Non-compliant WCAG criteria:
- 1.4.4 Resize Text
- 1.4.10 Reflow
- 1.4.12 Text Spacing
Navigation and Keyboard Access
The use of certain functions is challenging when using a keyboard only. Identified issues involve the closing of navigation menus and the operation of date selection tools.
The visual distinctness of the focus indicator is insufficient in some areas, and errors have been noted in the readability of skip links.
Empty links have been identified within navigation elements.
Non-compliant WCAG criteria:
- 2.1.1 Keyboard
- 2.1.2 No Keyboard Trap
- 2.4.1 Bypass Blocks
- 2.4.7 Focus Visible
- 3.2.1 On Focus
- 4.1.1 Parsing
Screen Reader and Assistive Technologies
The heading hierarchy of pages has been found to be illogical, with instances where certain heading levels are skipped entirely.
Language selection menus may lack an accessible name. Deficiencies have been noted in the translations of assistive labels (ARIA labels), which may result in them being presented in a language different from the rest of the site content.
Assistive technologies, such as screen readers, have been observed to announce elements like phone numbers or menu structures in an illogical or confusing manner. Technical deficiencies in forms, such as missing group definitions (field sets) or incorrectly associated labels, have also been identified.
Non-compliant WCAG criteria:
- 1.1.1 Non-text Content
- 1.3.1 Info and Relationships
- 1.3.2 Meaningful Sequence
- 2.4.6 Headings and Labels
- 3.3.2 Labels or Instructions
- 4.1.1 Parsing
- 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value
Language of Content
Sections have been identified within critical stages of the service where content is presented in the incorrect language. For example, some data and status notifications are displayed only in English while the service is otherwise used in Finnish.
Non-compliant WCAG criteria:
- 3.1.2 Language of Parts
- 3.2.4 Consistent Identification
Content Not Within the Scope of Legislation
The website utilizes third-party content that is not subject to the accessibility requirements. These include components of the cookie management tool and the embedded payment system (Paytrail), to which the service provider does not have administrative access.
It has been noted that the embedded payment selection interface contains challenges related to element distinctness due to insufficient colour contrasts.
